Keepsake that Educates!

Book Review/Giveaway: Animal Teachers. Ends Dec 14th

Animal Teachers

Animal Teachers by Janet Halfmann, illustrated by Katy Hudson.

What’s a great way for kids to learn about learning? Tell them how animal parents teach their young! What’s a great way for kids to learn about learning? Tell them how an otter takes swimming lessons, or how a chick learns to peck! Short entries portray how twelve different animals are taught various “lessons.” Loads of information about nature is offered in brief, kid-friendly explanations paired with striking illustrations.

My Review: Question, who taught you how to do things? Let me answer that question. Your parents, grandparents, your teachers and others taught you things. So who teaches the animals? Funny if the answer was, they read books, or got their information about life from checking the internet. The author is about to give us a peek into some animal lessons.

As you read each page, you will learn how a chick takes food from Mama Hen’s mouth and how she drops seeds around their feet. Learn how Kangaroos defend themselves as Mama Kangaroo teaches her young ones boxing by pushing their front paws and kicks with their big hind feet. Read about the Beaver as they learn how to build, the drinking lesson by the elephants, the shouting lesson by the Prairie Dogs, and the fishing lesson by the bears and many more. The animals need these skills to handle the environment they live in.

This is a great educational book that introduces children to the animal’s way of life. This book is a great resource for the classroom teaching as it gives more animal facts at the end of the book.

The book is beautifully illustrated with watercolor like images by Katy Hudson who did a great job by portraying how the teachers shows the learners how to use the skills they learned.  I love Janet Halfmann’s books and will always recommend them for not only classroom reading but as part of children’s home library. If you’re going to have one good book on the shelf, it should be a Janet Halfmann’s book.
