32912811

About the Book: Nina’s a girl who takes charge. She uses her brain and her muscles to complete rescue missions. She doesn’t mind getting dirty and climbing trees. It’s all part of the life of the everyday girl superhero. Young readers are encouraged to recognize that the traits of being smart, strong, and speedy exist within themselves. Young girls will find this book to be a positive affirmation that they too can be superheroes.  http://www.soniapanigrahy.com/about-the-book/

  • Age Range: 3 – 7 years
  • Grade Level: Kindergarten – 2
  • Paperback: 44 pages
  • Publisher: Tiny Sparks Press (November 22, 2016)

My Review: Nina is a little girl known as the neighborhood Ninja.  She dresses up like a superhero and rescues those in need. With her amazing qualities, and with the help of her sidekick, Fiona they spend the day thinking about resourceful ways in helping others.

When she hears a bird in distress she investigates, she goes out of her way to build shelters for animals. The animals love her for she is not only smart, but she is strong and speedy.

I enjoyed reading this book and everyone should have a copy for their young ones. The message from this book is about caring for others. This book not only inspire children but has a positive message for young girls and boys.

The illustrations by Hazel Quintanilla are bold, colorful and bright. Great for home and school library.

About the Author: Sonia Panigrahy (Pah-Nee-Grah-Hee), is a public health professional, world traveler, adventure seeker, and fitness enthusiast. She believes that life is too short to be bored!

Nina the Neighborhood Ninja was created out of Sonia’s lifelong love of reading. As her family and friends begin to have children, she looked forward to sharing this love with them. She believes that books are a powerful way to empower impressionable young minds.

Sonia was surprised that she could not find books for girls ages 3-6 years that realistically identified females as intelligent, physically tough, brave, and adventurous. She was disappointed that girls continue to be excluded from the heart of the superhero story.

After unsuccessful attempts to find a young girl superhero protagonist on the pages of a book, especially one of color, she gave up. Then she created her own.

About the Book: From a compelling new voice in middle grade comes a reimagination of The Odyssey told from the point of view of Odysseus’s loyal dog—a thrilling tale of loyalty, determination, and adventure.

And what of that family—his devoted wife, Penelope; his young son, Telemachos; his dog, Argos? For those twenty years, they wait, unsure if they will ever see Odysseus again. But Argos has found a way to track his master. Any animal who sets foot or wing on Ithaka brings him news of Odysseus’s voyage—and hope that one day his master will return. Meanwhile, Argos watches over his master’s family and protects them from the dangers that surround a throne without its king. http://ralphhardyfiction.com/books/

28591745

About the Book: After years of running from his tragic past, Jack Yale
books a flight home. With him is a typewriter that is intended to be a gift for his granddaughter, Elizabeth. The minute Elizabeth’s fingers cradle the large black and cream keys the machine responses: popping, sizzling, and roaring to life with a Whiz-Whiz-BANG! Elizabeth quickly discovers the typewriter has powers beyond anything she has ever seen. The more she types, the more the machine spells out guarded secrets that need to be revealed in order to set history straight and remove a curse that has been on their family for centuries. To solve the mystery, Elizabeth Yale, alongside Jack, will have to crack the code of the Whizbang Machine. What they find challenges their most basic assumptions of their family, the history of the typewriter, and even Elizabeth’s father’s death. The ultimate goal is to remove the curse. Beginning with the first rays of sunlight and moving through the day, this book reminds little ones that God’s love shines on us just as the sun shines on the earth. With its lyrical rhythm, sweet illustrations, and novelty diecut feature, the book will serve as a welcome reminder of God’s presence in our lives.

  • Age Range: 2 – 4 years
  • Grade Level: Preschool and up

29434895

God Made the Moon by Dr. Mary Manz Simon and illustrated by Lizzie Walkley

About the Book: God Made the Moon is a celebration of God’s gift of nighttime to the world. Beginning with the first sleepy yawn and ending with a bedtime prayer, this book reminds little ones that God’s love shines on us just as the moon shines on the earth. With its lyrical rhythm, sweet illustrations, and novelty die-cut feature, the book will be a welcome addition to any child’s bedtime rituals.

  • Grade Level: Preschool and up
  • Age Range: 2 – 4 years
  • Board book: 20 pages
  • Publisher: WorthyKids/Ideals; Brdbk edition (September 6, 2016)
  • Cost: $7.99

My Review: The rhyming story shows the joy on a child’s face when they wake up in the morning to see the Sun outside their window. Its another day for them to come out and play with their friends. Splash and play in the puddles, looking cool by dressing up looking like a movie star, skipping, playing peek-a-boo. And when the weather is hot, they head to the pool to cool off. They find time to sit outside to have lunch. And when the Sun starts to slide down, they look forward to seeing the Moon.

While the Moon smile on the earth giving it light at night. The kids watch as the lightning bugs blink off and on like flashlights and crickets chirping. They know its time for bed when the Moon is out. Time for them to be thankful to God for all that happened throughout their day.

These are great books from the author who writes about the age appropriate biblical concepts that are woven around the recurring theme of how God loves and watches over us.  These books makes a perfect bedtime story for young kids. The illustrator captured each scene wonderfully with bold and bright colors. A must for your home library for kids.

My Review: Ellis the Elephant goes back in time to learn about how the past US presidents governed a vast nation. Learning about how George Washington led the Revolutionary War and sworn in as the first president, pledging to serve and defend freedom. Ellis also learn about Thomas Jefferson the founding father who wrote the declaration of independence. James Madison known as the father of the Constitution.  Ellis learned about Andrew Jackson known as a war hero, Abraham Lincoln known as the president who presided over a nation that was in crisis and divided by the fighting over slavery. Theodore Roosevelt who preserved the best lands by setting aside millions of acres of lands.  Ellis went on to learn about many more presidents and their achievements. From George Washington to Barack Obama, he learned how each of them accepted a great responsibility, and done the job to the best of their ability.

What a great way for children and adults to learn about the past and present American presidents and their achievements. The last few pages of the book gives a list of all the US presidents, the year they governed and short history. The illustrations by Susan Arciero are vibrant, bold and colorful which helps sell the story.
