Book Review Tour/Giveaway: The Zebra Said Shhh! Ends March 22nd.

The Zebra Said Shhh

The Zebra Said Shhh written by M.R. Nelson and illustrated by Tamia Sheldon

About the Book: An exhausted zebra is ready for bed but the other animals at the zoo still want to play. Help the Zebra say “Shhh” to the lions, elephants and other noisy animals at the zoo. A calming bedtime book for little monkeys everywhere.

My Review: It was bedtime, time for the animals at the zoo to go to bed. As the Zebra was getting ready for bed he notices it wasn’t quiet. The animals were not sleeping but talking. The Zebra was very tired and could not go to sleep because of the noise. So the Zebra said, Shhh, to the monkey, to the lion, to the parrot, to seals, to the rhinoceros and the other animals, it’s time to go to sleep. But they did not want to go to sleep. Then all of a sudden it was quiet at the zoo.

Interesting bedtime story for children but I felt like a page was missing. A page that should have told us what suddenly made the noisy animals stop making noise. Story illustrated by Tamia Sheldon.

  1. My grandkids loved “Good Night, Gorilla”, which is virtually wordless and told in pictures. This book sounds like a natural progression that would appeal to the same audience.
Your caution about the “missing page” worries me, though- BUT knowing about it in advance might allow for some conversation with your children after they’ve finished the book – “Why do you think the animals stopped?”

  2. I think this would be a calming book to read at bedtime to my grandchildren. We can use our imaginations to figure out what makes the animals stop making noise.

  4. The cover of this animal book is really adorable! My husband or I read to our children every
night at bedtime…It would be fun to see why and how the Zebra tells the other animals to “Shhh”,
so that he may sleep. Many thanks to you, Cindi

  6. I enjoyed the review and thought that the book sounds somewhat open-ended.., so that the readers can use their imaginations and fill in the blanks!
What a fun activity in reading!

  7. Sounds like the children I babysit…they always creep downstairs after bedtime to get a glass of water or this or that…anything to stall the bedtime! 🙂

  8. I agree it kind of made me think of “Goodnight Gorilla” but I would be wondering the same thing…why did they all go quiet? Was it because the zebra said “shh” and they just didn’t reiterate that in the end? Thanks for the giveaway…would love this for a night-night book for my little one!

  9. I love the books cover and that there are lots of animals mentioned in the book. I think my children would enjoy using their imaginations to think of ways why all the animals got very quiet.

  10. This book would make a great bedtime story as it seems intended to help calm the reader or person being read to into slumber. I can definitely relate to the zebra’s plight.
