Imagine Jimmy’s concern when he found that every time he said the word “Gimme,” his hand grew larger! Jimmy was happy to discover that when he was polite and said, “Please” and “Thank you,” his hand began to shrink. My Review: Sherrill Cannon had done it again with another amazing story about a boy named Jimmy who is a bully and therefore nick-named “Gimme- Jimmy”. Jimmy always said, Gimme my toys, Gimme my book. He will grab toys and books that did not belong to him from girls and snatch from boys. Because of his behavior he didn’t have any friends. Jimmy wasn’t only a bully at school but at home as well. His father told him that he must learn to share or his greed may show up in the size of his hand and that the more he takes from people the more his hand will grow in size. But did Jimmy listen to his father and did his hand grow from saying the word GIMME? Will a polite attitude help Jimmy?
 
The best part in this book is that the bully was the one who had the problem because anytime he mentioned the word “Gimme” his hand enlarges. A book that will teach any child the importance of sharing and that being a bully is no fun. This book has great art works by Kalpart which helps tell the story. I highly recommend this book.

  1. I think it’s great to have a book about bullying, as it is a big topic in schools. The sooner we can teach our children to respect each other and to share the better. I would love this book for my kids.

  4. I love this book! I haven’t even read it but I love it. My daughter (2) and my nephew (3) are constantly snatching things from each other. Especially my nephew…he is always taking things from other people. He is not quite a bully but I think this book may help!

  5. How do you always end up with the most instructive books? This is another one that sounds perfect for teaching young children an important concept and again I have not previously been aware of it.   7. My son is in 2nd grade and the kids are always trying to steal each other’s things. Our schools are huge on bullying because a high school student was being bullied and tried to blow up our high school.

  11. Looks like a cute way to teach kiddos bully do not win. Since my son displays a lot of the “alpha male” attitudes when playing with other kids, think this book would be a gentle way to remind him to share and not be a bully. ajdunville (at) yahoo (dot) com

  12. Sounds like a great book to teach kids about bullying – I know my 3rd grader has been a victim of bullying this year and I think it is one of the most important lessons we can teach our kids at this age!

  17. Sounds like a wonderful lesson for children. My 7 year old is a big bully to her little sister. I think this would be a great read for the 2 if them together.

  19. Oh boy, do my children need to read this book! They are polite and have very good manners but sometimes they get into a “gimme” phase and this would be a great way to remind them that good behavior is rewarded in a good way while poor behavior is not.
