Book Review: God Made the Sun and God Made the Moon.

29434875

God Made The Sun by Dr. Mary Manz Simon, illustrated by Lizzie Walkley

About the Book: God Made the Sun is a celebration of God’s gift of daytime to the world. Beginning with the first rays of sunlight and moving through the day, this book reminds little ones that God’s love shines on us just as the sun shines on the earth. With its lyrical rhythm, sweet illustrations, and novelty diecut feature, the book will serve as a welcome reminder of God’s presence in our lives.

  • Age Range: 2 – 4 years
  • Grade Level: Preschool and up
  • Board book: 20 pages
  • Publisher: WorthyKids/Ideals; Brdbk edition (September 6, 2016)
  • Cost: $7.99

29434895

God Made the Moon by Dr. Mary Manz Simon and illustrated by Lizzie Walkley

About the Book: God Made the Moon is a celebration of God’s gift of nighttime to the world. Beginning with the first sleepy yawn and ending with a bedtime prayer, this book reminds little ones that God’s love shines on us just as the moon shines on the earth. With its lyrical rhythm, sweet illustrations, and novelty die-cut feature, the book will be a welcome addition to any child’s bedtime rituals.

  • Grade Level: Preschool and up
  • Age Range: 2 – 4 years
  • Board book: 20 pages
  • Publisher: WorthyKids/Ideals; Brdbk edition (September 6, 2016)
  • Cost: $7.99

My Review: The rhyming story shows the joy on a child’s face when they wake up in the morning to see the Sun outside their window. Its another day for them to come out and play with their friends. Splash and play in the puddles, looking cool by dressing up looking like a movie star, skipping, playing peek-a-boo. And when the weather is hot, they head to the pool to cool off. They find time to sit outside to have lunch. And when the Sun starts to slide down, they look forward to seeing the Moon.

While the Moon smile on the earth giving it light at night. The kids watch as the lightning bugs blink off and on like flashlights and crickets chirping. They know its time for bed when the Moon is out. Time for them to be thankful to God for all that happened throughout their day.

These are great books from the author who writes about the age appropriate biblical concepts that are woven around the recurring theme of how God loves and watches over us.  These books makes a perfect bedtime story for young kids. The illustrator captured each scene wonderfully with bold and bright colors. A must for your home library for kids.

About the Book: When a girl receives a beautiful porcelain box from her grandmother, she immediately wants something special to put inside it. But what could it be? What does she love best? She loves jumping in puddles on rainy days, blowing bubbles in the park, and watching her little sister’s first steps. As it turns out, life’s most precious treasures cannot be contained in a box! With a gentle message about the immateriality of happiness, this story reminds us to take pleasure in everyday moments. The book is beautifully packaged with a sparkly die-cut star on the cover, and flaps throughout reveal hidden surprises. http://www.abramsbooks.com/product/all-my-treasures_9781419722042/

  • Age Range: 2 – 4 years
  • Grade Level: Preschool and up
  • Series: Growing Hearts
  • Board book: 32 pages
  • Publisher: Harry N. Abrams; Ltf edition (August 23, 2016)
  • Cost: $16.95

My Review: When a little girl received a porcelain box from her grandmother, she celebrated with joy and happiness. Now she has to look for something to put inside her box. But what could it be? It has to be something special, a perfect treasure to put inside. She would like to put her candles inside but they will stick to it. Coins, but it will scratch the box. Her toys were too big. What about rainy days, since she loves playing in the rain. Bubbies, because she loves to blow bubbles. What about her paper boats? She wants to fill the box with something that is colorful, bright and beautiful.

The illustrations are vibrant, bold and colorful with each page with a lift-a-flaps which helps tell the story.

Book Review: Olivia Loves Owl.

28818279

About the Book: A companion to Ben Loves Bear, Bella Loves Bunny, and Peter Loves Penguin, Olivia Loves Owl features a little girl and her beloved stuffed owl. Olivia and Owl pick apples and frolic through piles of colorful leaves. After enjoying a perfect fall day, they go inside to wish upon a star and hoot at the moon. The youngest readers will relate to the loving bond between a child and her favorite stuffed animal and how this sweet friendship makes each day special.

  • Grade Level: Preschool and up
  • Board book: 20 pages
  • Publisher: Harry N. Abrams; Brdbk edition (August 30, 2016)
  • Cost: $8.95

My Review: A story rhyme about Olivia and her stuffed animal, Owl. The story shows the love and friendship between them. As they go outside and enjoy the Fall weather, Olivia puts on her sweater and headed outside with Owl. They love playing out together. Olivia flying high enough to land on the fallen leaves, Owl flies higher. Olivia picks apples while Owl sits on a branch and watch. After been out for awhile, Olivia gets tired and heads inside but Owl is wide awake. As they sat on Olivia’s bed and watch the stars, Olivia falls asleep while Owl watches over her.

A great bedtime story. The softly watercolor illustrations remains helps to tell the story. This is a great book for younger kids.

Halloween Book Review: Always October

Always October by Bruce Coville

About the Book: No doubt about it, little brothers can be monsters. When sixth grader Jake Doolittle finds a baby on the doorstep and his mother decides to keep it, those words are more than just an expression. Instead, they perfectly describe the way his new little brother, LD, sprouts pointy ears, thick fur, and fangs in moonlight.

Not only is LD a monster. . . . other monsters have plans for him. But together with his friend “Weird Lily” Carker, Jake isn’t about to let anything happen to the baby. The little guy is still his brother, even if it turns out that LD may be the key to saving the world—or destroying it.

Soon Jake and Lily are on a perilous quest through Always October, a world populated with monsters ranging from the venomous to the ridiculous. Master of comic suspense Bruce Coville presents a tale of ominous dangers and hairbreadth escapes, of the conflict between forces of dark and light, and of the lengths to which one boy will go to save his brother—monster or not.

My Review: When Jake decided to check on his new little brother that was left on their doorstep, he was shocked to see that the pajamas that LD was wearing when he went to sleep now laid a creature with bright green fur, pointed ears and a huge mouth full of glistening fangs.

But Jake didn’t care that his new bother just turned into a monster. Jake and Lily have to do all they can to keep LD safe from other monsters. Great book, if you love adventure, you will surely like Always October.

The ending seems to be left open for a second book.

Book Review and Giveaway: The Fuzzy Fella. Ends Nov 13th

The Fuzzy Fella by Natascha  Taylor

You know, as mad and crazy as he is, the  Fuzzy Fella can be a bit shy at times. But the truth is, believe me, he can be brave enough and strong enough to seriously save the world. That is, if you can find him. And if you do, be sure to sing it from the top of the nearest mountain!

My Review: You wouldn’t want to know what I thought when I first read this book. I have to read it a second time to understand what Fuzzy Fella was about…LOL! This book is mysterious but it’s one that you will find charming. The story is told in rhymes. Fuzzy Fella likes to grow and stay around and sometimes vanished as quickly into thin air. Sometimes you will look for him and he isn’t there. You could find him in your stomach, or on your finger or arm in arm walking you down to be wed but can not be contained.

So who is this Fuzzy Fella, could he be your vision of love? Well, you have to buy your own copy to find out. Like the book said, a very true story for little kids, big kids and grown ups. Illustrations are funny looking but it does tell the story.
