Keepsake that Educates!

Book/Author Spotlight. Giveaway. Jorie and the Magic Stones. Ends Jan 6th

About the Book: When Marjorie went to live with her frosty maiden aunt, she couldn’t imagine the adventures she would have with dragons — good and bad — and all the strange creatures that live in a mysterious land beneath the Tarn. The spunky 9-year-old redhead forges an unlikely friendship with an insecure young boy named Rufus who lives with his crusty grandfather next door. When Jorie — for that is what she prefers to be called — finds a dusty ancient book about dragons, she learns four strange words that will send the two of them into a mysterious land beneath the Tarn, riddled with enchantment and danger. Hungry for adventure, the children take the plunge, quite literally, and find themselves in the magic land of Cabrynthius.

Upon meeting the good dragon, the Great Grootmonya, Jorie and Rufus are given a quest to find the three Stones of Maalog — stones of enormous power — and return them to their rightful place in Cabrynthius. Their mission is neither easy nor safe, and is peppered with perils in the form of the evil black half-dragon who rules the shadowy side of the land. They have to deal with a wicked and greedy professor, the tragic daughter of the bad dragon, caves of fire, rocky mountainous climbs, and a deadly poisonous butterfly.

Jorie must rely on her wits and courage to win the day? Can she do this? Can she find all three Stones? Can she save Rufus when disaster befalls him? Can she emerge victorious? She and Rufus have some hair-raising challenges, in which they learn valuable lessons about loyalty, bravery, and friendship.

Book Review on Amazon:

About the Author: I have done a little of everything – I was an actress for a few years in England; I have loved horses all my life, and have taught Dressage which I loved. I paint in watercolors, oils and acrylics, I sculpt, and now I write…and have found this last activity wonderful, challenging, sometimes frustrating, but always uplifting – there is something about a spoken word written on a page, that brings one to life. It is creativity lived at the max!
My second book is a slight departure from flying dragons and brave little nine-year olds, titled ‘Murder in Little Shendon’ it pulls you into a tiny little village in England shortly after World War Two, and involves the talents of Sir Victor Hazlitt and his actor sidekick Beresford Brandon, along with a host of delectable characters that I feel the readers will love!
I had enormous fun writing this…however pulling all the strings together at the end is quite challenging. I love the combication of Hazlitt and Brandon, and plan a second murder mystery involving this winsome twosome!
I have written a sequel to my first book ‘Jorie and the Magic Stones’ which will be out soon; this had a very good following, and several people have been looking for further adventures of young Jorie and Rufus.

About the Author:  Since the age of eight, L. R. W. Lee knew she wanted to write a book. Fortunately or unfortunately, she required of herself that she have something significant to say; she sought to contribute to others in a way that could change their lives. Because a degree in Accounting at Cedarville University, as well as work in public and corporate accounting, did not provide riveting fodder for a best seller, she waited. Upon selling her business in early 2012, she had time to write and, more importantly, something significant to share.   L. R. W. Lee’s favorite musical is The Sound of Music. She hates scary movies, but loves piano and strings music, sunsets in Hawaii and a good cup of decaf, French press coffee (yes, decaf!). She also loves Ansel Adams prints and all manner of kinetic art.!bio/cerf

Book Review and Giveaway: Stella, The Fire Farting Dragon. Ends Nov 30th

Stella The Fire Farting Dragon by J. Aday Kennedy and illustrated by Jack Foster

Stella’s nervous tummy threatens her chances of winning the contest, but she marshals her nerves and does her best. A lesson of perseverance wrapped in a humorous bite makes the most reluctant readers gobble up this story. They’ll giggle themselves silly as Stella Dragon performs her flying act and farts fire.

My Review: What is Stella going to do about her nervous tummy? The Dragon Realms Talent Contest is tomorrow and she is worried that she will toot fire and stink up the place and ruin her chances of winning. Her friend Allen decided that they should practice until she is no longer nervous. But her stomach gurgle-gurgled and BRRRT!  But Allen had a solution, the next day he brought Stella a platter of blueberry muffins. Did the muffins help Stella stop farting and win the completion?

Stella had a good friend in Allen who kept on encouraging her. This story will help children believe in themselves that no matter the situation they can overcome it. Just make sure you have a good friend that would stand by you no matter what even if your fart stink….LOL! The bold and colorful illustrations by Jack Foster help with the story. I highly recommend this book for your children’s library and for classroom reading.

Book Review and Giveaway: Danny The Dragon Meets Jimmy. Ends Oct 20th

Danny the Dragon meets Jimmy written by Tina Turbin and illustrated by Aija Jasuna.

Danny the Dragon and his traveling companion Skipper come across a new home and meet a new family, in the most unusual way. Where are they from? How did they get here?

My Review: While at the beach with his family, Jimmy came across a beautiful green and white shell when he picked the shell up it said “Hello!” In the shell happens to live a dragon named Danny and his navigator Skipper. We later find out that Danny is a very polite dragon. After been invited to dinner, Danny suggested that Jimmy and his sister Sally clear the table and help with the dishes. Jimmy wanted to know more about Danny and how a big creature can live in a shell.

I like a book that is full of imagination and this Best Books Award Finalist USA Book News book is just that. Children can learn a good lesson from this book as it helps promote politeness and responsibility, teaching children about manners and chores.

The illustrations in this book are wonderful as it shows the politeness of a gentle dragon. I highly recommend this book not only for your children’s library but also for classroom reading. Danny the dragon is also available on DVD and CD.
