Book Review/Giveaway: What is Love by Corine Hyman. Ends Sept 19th

What is Love

What Is Love by Corine Hyman and Illustrated by Daan Yahya

What is Love: A Kid Friendly Interpretation of 1 John 3:11, 16-18 & 1 Corinthians 13:1-8 & 13

About the Book: What is Love is a Bible based picture book that is designed to help children understand what love is. In the story, twins Kar’Leigh and Kar’Moni have just learned what the Bible says about love. Come join them as they bring to life 1 John 3:11, 16-18 and 1 Corinthians 13:1-8a & 13 in a way that is easy for children to understand. Each page includes a Bible verse and there are links in the back of the book to download free handwriting pages.

Pages: 26

My Review: In this book twins sisters Kar’Moni and Kar’Leigh shows just how important love is. They learned that they have to start by loving themselves. That is according to 1 John 3:11. “We should love one another”. It shows that when you love, you help those in need and that love is patient and kind. They also learn that love doesn’t brag about what you have to others or envy those who have. Love respects others and keeps no records of the wrongs. I like that every page has a scripture relating to the story.

The only part of the book I really didn’t agree with shows one of the twins with a crystal ball and the page talking about the gift of prophecy. When we have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, we do not need a crystal ball.

The illustrations are bright and colorful which helps tell the story. I recommend this book for Sunday school teaching.

  4. I think it’s important that the book states that you must first love yourself. I wasn’t told this until I was an adult. I’m glad that there’s a children’s book available that does and furthermore defines God’s everlasting love. We love working on handwriting so I appreciate that the book includes links at the back for handwriting practice sheets. The best part is the incorporation of Bible verses. If we won the book, we’d most likely try to memorize those verses using games. I wonder if the book also includes service learning projects to show love to those in need? Thank you for the opportunity to win this book! It sounds GREAT!

  10. I think it is important this this book talks about the verses and teaches you to love yourself first. I think that is truly what is wrong with a lot of people that they don’t know how to love. I would love to share this with my daughter and then my nieces and nephews.
