A Sandy Grave

Pump Up Your Book Presents A Sandy Grave Virtual Book Publicity Tour & Giveaway.

A Sandy Grave by Donna M. McDine, illustrated by Julie Hammond

About the Book: The anticipation of summer vacation can put anyone in a great mood with the excitement of adventures especially at the beach. But what is a group of friends to do when they discover mysterious men poaching whale teeth at the beach?

The lifeguards had their arms extended and attempted to move the crowd back. The tallest lifeguard said, “People, please stay back. The authorities will arrive to examine the whale to determine the cause of death within the hour. The whale must have died at sea and washed ashore.”

My Review: Leah, Nicole and Hayley were looking forward to having fun at the beach during their summer vacation. As they make their way to the beach they saw a huge whale washed up ashore surrounded by a lot of people.

Then they notice two men in filthy clothes, hanging out on the sand dune. Something didn’t seen right, why would they be burying their bag in the sand? And when Leah heard that the police will stand guard to keep poachers from stealing the whale’s teeth she wanted to know why? Her father explained that “A poacher is a person or group of people who try to hunt or steal fish illegally and sell for money”. The girls must do what they can to help the authorities capture the two poachers.

Poaching has traditionally been defined as the illegal hunting, killing or capturing of wild animals, usually associated with land use rights. This is a well written story to not only educate kids but adults as well. The warm water colors illustrations by Julie Hammond helps tell the story. I highly recommend this book for classroom reading.
