Keepsake that Educates!

Book Review/Giveaway: Gatsby’s Grand Adventure: Auguste Renoir: The Apple seller. Ends July 21st

Gatsby Grand Adv

Gatsby’s Grand Adventure: Auguste Renoir: The Apple seller by Barbara Cairns and art by Eugene Ruble.

About the Book: Gatsby, the art gallery cat, jumps into famous paintings at night. When he remembers to jump back out before sunrise, everything is fine. But sometimes, Gatsby forgets. That’s when strange things happen. Children will learn about Renoir and “The Apple Seller” through this adventure of a mischievous cat.

My Review: Gatsby loves exploring famous paintings at night by jumping into the paintings. One night Gatsby decided to jump into the Apple Seller painted by Pierre Auguste Renoir. He was looking forward to playing with the little girls in the painting. So he leap into the painting and climbed into the lap of one of the girls who stroked his head. But Jasper the dog came around and chased Gatsby away. With the help of the apple seller and the girls they were able to chase Jasper away from Gatsby who saw his chance to run and leap back into the painting. As he leap back into the gallery a ray of sunshine shimmered on the gallery floor. It was daytime and the Renoir painting is a mess. He must wait till night fall to make sure everyone is back in place then leap out to save the painting.

A story of adventure, humor and art history the children will enjoy reading.

  2. I am a cat person and I love books about cats and my granddaughter Adriananna loves to read these books. I think this book “Gatsby’s Grand Adventures by Barbara Cairns ” would be a fun and informative read and it will open my granddaughters eyes and other children’s eyes to the wonders and beauty of art and maybe help her learn the things the artist wants us to see and how to view art work in a different manner

  3. We love to keep a wide variety of books on our library shelves for our grandchildren. By offering a variety, it allows us & them to learn what they like, what they don’t, etc. Some of their favorites, overall, are the ones that include some truth, or some history, such as this book. It makes the reading fun but also imparts tidbits of knowledge along the way. We own two bengal cats, one of which, is VERY mischievous, so they would definitely relate this story to their beloved, Gray Beckman, cat extraordinaire!

  5. How imaginative! I imagine what adventures Gatsby could have by jumping into other paintings – is he the reason for the Mona Lisa smile?

  6. What a creative idea for a book! My kids may have been exposed to art history at school, but it’s not something we’ve learned about at home and I’m sure we’d really enjoy it! 🙂

  7. As a single mother that homeschools her three children (two of which have special needs), I love books that my children enjoy and that teach them at the same time. This sounds like a great combination!

  12. There are not a lot of tools available to introduce art to young children. This would be a great way to do that.
