Keepsake that Educates!

Book Review/Giveaway: Little Visits at Bedtime. Ends Oct 13th

Little Visits at Bedtime 105 Devotions and Prayers by Dr. Mary Manz Simon
About the Author: Dr. Mary Manz Simon combines her training as an early childhood educator, insights as a corporate consultant and children’s market analyst, and experiences as a mother and grandmother, to provide a wide range of services and presentations to audiences and companies.

Her platform of practical advice, within a developmental framework, appeals to educators and parents who want real-time solutions. Simon’s extensive work with companies and retailers, both in publishing, education and children’s entertainment, give her a comprehensive timeline and perspective on emerging issues.

“I’m a hybrid,” she explains. “I go beyond trend tracking to identify the implication and application of the shifting mindscape that impacts children, their families and the world in which we live.”

With sales of more than 3 million books in English, hundreds of magazine articles and media interviews, and, since 1994, a short-format radio program which airs daily on 180 stations, Simon is, in the words of her son, Matthew, “a world changer.”

About the Books: Bedtime routines anchor the day and help your family transition from a busy day to a peaceful night. Little Visits at Bedtime is a collection of 105 ready to use devotions that are easy to integrate into a nighttime schedule. Each Christ centered devotion includes:

Bible verse
Story reflecting everyday situations
Let’s Talk questions to trigger interaction
Parent Connection – practical ideas or child development content
Bringing It Home – foundational content for spiritual growth

My Review: I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Mary Manz Simon at the Christian International Retail Show in Orlando, FL in July. And she was happy to give me two copies of her book Little Visits at Bedtime. A book of 105 devotions and prayers for children ages 3 – 7.

This is a great book that gives parents the opportunity to spend time with their child as they make a peaceful transition from their busy day to a peaceful night.

Each story tells about a day in a child life, related bible verses and related question. For example: – Playing Fair is a story of hide and seeks. Aaron pretends to be counting while watching Kyle hide, but did not notice Aaron and called him a cheater.

So we learn from Let’s Talk – that a person who cheats doesn’t follow the rules.

Parents’ connection with this story is telling their child about being honest. And that being truthful means we don’t lie to ourselves or God.

A great way to bring God, parents and child together and I highly recommend this book for spiritual growth and practical ideas for your child’s development.

Ages: 3 and up

Pages: 224

FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.

  1. Little Visits at Bedtime sounds wonderful. I would love for my daughter & son-in-law to have this for my granddaughter Nellie. Even though my daughter works at her church, it would be so helpful to have such a book to guide and lead them with their night time devotions. Thanks, for the giveaway.

  2. Reading Little Visits at Bedtime sounds like such a sweet way to tuck my daughter in at night. My daughter has really begun to take an interest in religion and has been asking more and more questions. I think this book would be helpful in getting us talking about important topics. I also encourage her to say her prayers, but I think that she becomes self-conscious, so this book would be helpful with this as well.

  5. We do a devotion each night with the kids, but we’ve used the same devotional for 2 year and have been thinking about getting a new one. I like that this one has questions so the kids can interact and learn 🙂
