Keepsake that Educates!

Book Review/Giveaway: J.P.Trouble by Ryan Hill. Ends May 19th, 2012.

J. P. Trouble by Ryan Hill, illustrated by Stacy Evans.

About the Book: Little Johnny Lippett had just moved to a new town. He had no friends, no television, not even a goldfish…Little Johnny really, really needed a new friend.

My Review: In class one day, little Johnny‘s teacher notice he wasn’t paying attention to her lesson so she sent him outside to take the school flag down. While taking down the flag, little Johnny came across a stray brown puppy and picked him up and took the puppy with him to class where he was ambushed by two bullies demanding he hand over the puppy.

This is a story a lot of children can relate too. Moving to a new town and attending a new school, finding it hard to make new friends and having to deal with bullies. Little Johnny made a friend after all, with the puppy he found and he named him J.P Trouble (Just Plain Trouble).

A must read not only for classroom teaching but for parents with their young children. The illustration by Stacy Evans helps tell the story.

  1. I commented on the interview post.

This would be great to have as so many kids are dealing with bullying in schools and making new friends. Plus, the fact that it’s about a dog is something kids will love and connect with since so many families have pet dogs.

  3. I commented on interview. The illustrator Stacy Evans is very talented. I love the puppy’s face on the cover. 🙂 Great topics in book and the fact that P.T. Trouble is there to help him deal with his feelings is delightful.

  4. Overt bullying can be a problem. Some peer to peer contention is normal an a part of growing up. However, it is great to be able to address bullying so children know the difference and know how to handle it. This sounds like a good book and I love the red hair. I have grandchildren with red hair. 🙂

  5. I love the dogs name! JP & Johnny have a lot to deal with & sharing this book with my grandkids could get them talking about some stresses they have been going through. I think they would like to see how Johnny handles his problems.

  7. Its wonderful that this book covers many issues that many children have to deal with. It can be overwhelming enough for children to move and make adjustments to a new location. Then having to deal with no friends, a new school and acceptance issues doesnt help to add stability to the situation. How wonderful that a puppy can bring stability and love to a child.

  8. Any book about bullies is great! There are so many children that have to “live” with being bullied at school!

  9. It can be hard for children to adjust to a new environment. J.P Trouble sounds like just the companion Johnny Lippett needs.
