Book Review/Giveaway: The Incredibly Awesome Adventures of Puggie Liddell, Tesla Time, Book 1. Ends March 28th

The Incredibly Awesome Adventures of Puggie Liddell, Tesla Time, Book 1 by Karen Mueller Bryson.

About the Book: When the wise-cracking whiz kid, Puggie Liddell’s modified Gameboy activates a time travel portal, he lands in the 1890s with his sibling rival, annoyingly prissy teen sister, Gigi, who thinks history is like-totally-gross. The kids must learn to work together to find a time travel portal back to the present before the eccentric scientist, Nikola Telsa, or his arch nemesis, inventor Thomas Edison, can steal the Gameboy and use it to complete a death ray machine, an invention powerful enough to disturb the very fabric of space-time and create an instantaneous world disaster.

My Review: If you like time travel stories then this book is the one to read. During a school trip Puggie fell into a muddy pool, his Gameboy transported him and his sister Gigi who jumped in to save him through a portal to 1890s. They found themselves in the past in Thomas Edison’s pool not yet built. Their mission now is to find Thomas Edison, who may be able to help them get back home.

On their way to finding Thomas Edison who was at the Chicago World’s Fair they came across a One-Eyed man named Sam. After working for him they journey with him on his stagecoach toSt. Louistrain station. At the station they ran into Oscar Wilde who brought their tickets and travel with him to Chicago. They finally met Thomas Edison but was he able to help them? They also met Nikola Tesla who once worked with Thomas Edison but parted ways when they had a battle of Current.

Can Puggie and Gigi trust Thomas Edison or Nikola Tesla to help them find their way home? You have to buy your copy to find out.  The story is well written that adults would find it hard to put down once they start reading it with their children. For this time travel book, it was great to see that the author took us back to the historical past and introduce us to these two inventors.

The book was not only exciting but educational as well. I highly recommend this book.

Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor who developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world today. He invented the light bulb.

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor and researcher who discovered the rotating magnetic field, the basis of most alternating-current machinery. In 1884 he worked at the Edison Machine Works. He was an important contributor to the birth of commercial electricity, and is best known for developing the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system.

Oscar Wilde was an Irish write and poet. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London’s most popular playwrights in the early 1890s.

  3. Educational and fun. Two important things in kids reading. I love history so I think this is a great book for kids to read an adventure and meet some of the great people from back then. I live a few blocks from Thomas Edison’s factory in N.J. I commented on interview.
