Keepsake that Educates!

Book Review & Giveaway: Screamers: Poems and Drawings by Kenny Penny

When kids read they don’t think about getting an education, they want to have fun! “Screamers” is a delightful book of poetry that entertains children with humor while it helps them develop an ear for language. The author Kenny Penny offers up his zaniest poetry, inviting young readers to picture life as a “Big Slinky”, taste “alligator toenail stew” or read “the world’s smallest poem”. Smelly things, nutty teachers and hiccups add to the hilarity, as does the idea of “backwards pants” and having twelve toes! “Screamers” revels in the fact that kids have an enormous silly side and can never get enough of wacky ideas and crazy images. With over 225 poems and countless illustrations (all drawn by Kenny), this book is highly engaging, wildly funny, and unexpectedly heartwarming. For kids age 6-12.

My Review: This book of Poems and drawings has a lot of humor that children even adults can relate to. If you love poems you would love this book, why? Because the drawings are simple and child-like. The poems are funny that it would keep you laughing as you turn the pages.

Example: Driving

Driving daddy’s car…

Just missing all the trees.

Driving daddy’s car…

Much faster than the breeze.

Driving daddy’s car…

I know that he’ll be pleased

Once I find the jar

Where daddy hides the keys.

I highly recommend this book. For a copy visit Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Screamers-Kenny-Penny/dp/0615315593

  10. Yay! Another poetry book! Poetry can be so hard for kids to grasp, so I am trying to collect as many books of poetry as I can to use as examples for them.
