Return to Canterbury by Melissa Ann Goodwin

About the Book: Things have settled down for thirteen-year-old Jamie Reynolds since last Christmas. That’s when he time-traveled to 1932 and wound up in the town of Canterbury, Vermont. There he met Kelly and Christopher Pennysworth, who quickly became his best friends. Back in his own time again, he misses them every day. But, as the July 4th, 2008 holiday approaches, the biggest black cloud hovering over Jamie’s life is the mystery of what happened to his dad, who has been missing for almost a year.

Little does Jamie know that he will soon reunite with Kelly and Christopher for an adventure even bigger than their last. Together they’ll uncover a secret plot that threatens to destroy Canterbury. But will they be able to stop it before it’s too late? And will Jamie finally solve the mystery of his father’s disappearance? Return to Canterbury with us and find out!

My Review: Be careful what you wish for because you may find yourself time traveling. Author Melissa Ann Goodwin is back with a sequel to The Christmas Village. In ‘Return to Canterbury’ Jamie returns to 1935 Canterbury this time to save his father who is still stuck there. His father has managed to travel back in time and wound up in Canterbury without a way of returning to his family. The last time Jamie traveled to Canterbury he got there through the Christmas village. Now they must figure out a way to travel back. But there’s a plot that threatens to destroy Canterbury and is up to them to uncover this secret before they return home.

Just like The Christmas Village, Return to Canterbury will take readers on a rollercoaster ride back to 1935, full of excitement, suspense, humor and twists. I highly recommend this book.

  2. Time travel books are always interesting, if they are well written, because of the issues related to the time/space paradoxes that result from people from the future occupying the past. I love reading about all the potential ill effects that could result from some simple action. This book sounds as if it would be very interesting. I’m curious about the mystery mentioned. michelle_willms at yahoo dot com

  4. Long time saying of mine “be careful of what you wish for….” I think that it will be fun to follow Jamie and his return to Canterbury, Vermont to see what happened to his father who has been gone over a year. It will be fun to reunite with Kelly and Christopher for this adventure in Return to Canterbury by Melissa Ann Goodwin.

  5. There are two aspects of this book that already intrigue me: time travel and Canterbury. This book sounds like something I could share with my classroom to discuss themes, character development, and exciting plot development as well!

    • Hi Amy, you can read a couple of reviews from teachers and parents in the Amazon reviews for The Christmas Village. Return to Canterbury is very much in the same vein – suspense, surprise, lots of excitement! I hope you and your students will enjoy!
