Keepsake that Educates!

Book Review/Giveaway: Lucky’s Lick. Ends Oct 18th

Lucky Lick

Lucky’s Lick by Mary Esparza-Vela and illustrated by Denis Proulx

About the Book: A young boy sits in his wheel chair in front of the house, waiting for his guests to arrive for his birthday party. His uncle walks in with a frisky little puppy that changes the boy’s life. The story is about love and faith.

My Review: Juanito sat in his wheel chair watching the kids in his neighborhood playing basketball and riding their bikes. Only a few months ago he was riding his bike before he got struck by a car which left him paralyzed from the waist down. Juanito’s prayer was to walk again and with his birthday coming up he wasn’t going to allow his situation get in the way of celebrating with his friends and family. He received a special gift from his uncle which went a long way in helping him make a full recovery.

This is an inspiring and uplifting story, a story about a positive attitude toward life situations. This story not only encourages children but gives hope. A great way to overcome adversity.

The illustrations by Denis Proulx are bright and bold which helps bring the story to life. I highly recommend this book.

  2. A positive uplighting book about disabilities is so hard to find. My daughter is Autistic and it is heart breaking to watch her stay on the sideline from so many activities. I would love to win this book.

  3. I would love it if Ms. Esparza-Vela could write a prequel about how Juanito received his wheelchair. Where I live, I see carwashes and bakesales to raise money to get wheelchairs for children. Did he pick one out? There was also a recent news report about a child that visited grandma and the wheelchair was left outside on the porch and then stolen.

  4. I look forward to finding out if Juanito is able to walk again. I enjoy reading stories about the special bonds between people and their pets.
