Book Review/Giveaway: Hubert Shrubb takes Charge. Ends June 30th.
Hubert Shrubb takes Charge by Sue Graves
Winner #5 - Larissa brunken’s Son
About the Book: When Hubert Shrubb has to leave his expensive prep school to go to the local village school, he feels that his world has collapsed. His new head teacher, Mr. Cogsworthy, seems to be as mad as a box of frogs and the kids take delight in mocking Hubert’s posh ways. The only ray of sunshine is Miss Lamb, his teacher. One day, however, the children learn that she must leave the school and everyone is upset, none more so than Hubert. He decides it’s time to show his amazing leadership skills and save Miss Lamb. However, he soon discovers this is much harder than he thought…
My Review: Hubert could not believe that his world was falling apart. Not only did he have to leave his expensive prep school, he found out from his Nanny that his parents had to give up the family Rolls Royce, their big house and move in with her because they are broke. And with any hope of finishing his education he has to attend a public school.
He couldn’t believe the school was open plan. And the kids laugh at the way he spoke. The only person he found friendly was his class teacher Miss Lamb. After a few weeks, Hubert was beginning to get used to life at Idle School. Until one Wednesday morning when he arrived at school to find Miss Lamb sitting at her desk crying, the head teacher Mr. Cogsworthy has decided to sack her because the numbers of children attending Idle has dropped and since Miss Lamb was the newest teacher she has to be the first to go.
Hubert was angry he liked Miss Lamb and certainly didn’t want her to leave. Hubert and the other kids went as far as the County Hall to speak to the Chief Education Officer to help save their favorite teacher’s job. But when it looked like it wasn’t going as planned, he came up with the perfect plan to save Miss Lamb’s job.
Hubert is a good example to kids everywhere. He was determined to save his teacher’s job. I highly recommend this book not just for the home but for classroom teaching.

Thank for the posting. i need some books and worksheets for our kids where they learn. So i even visit some kids activities sites and where found morecoloringpages.com. which we have give many ideas for related kids activities and book to color & print.
This book has a motivating ‘David vs Goliath’ story – it shows kids that they are strong enough to face adversity.
I love that a student tries to solve problems on his own. I think its a great lesson yo show kids change can occur and sometimes even the littlest person can make a huge difference.
A great life lesson for children to learn that things in life are not always easy.
